Sometimes older people, their families and carers need to make decisions about an older person staying at home.
Many people prefer to remain in their own home with community support but there are times when it is necessary to move to another level of support. There are many options which can include moving to retirement villages, day care options and rest homes. If you are concerned speak with your family or doctor.
If you are considering residential care you will be required to have a needs assessment. The assessment will determine your eligibility for funded aged residential care.
For Hutt Valley residents you can contact the Service Co-ordination Centre for a needs assessment 04 566 2226.
More information for everyone can be found on the Senior Line website or calling 0800 725 463.
You will also find more information about accessing health care at home on our Community Health Services and District Nurses page here.
