Hutt Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provides quality care and support to patients in a critical condition. On average, we look after over 700 patients every year.

The Intensive Care Unit is located on level 1 of the Theatre and Emergency Department (ED) Block.
Visitor information
- Visitor hours: 9.30am - 2:30pm and 3:30 – 7pm
- Visiting outside of these times is only by arrangement.
- We ask that no more than two people visit a patient at a time.
- Visitors must be over 16 years old.
- If you are unwell, please do not visit, for the safety of our patients and staff.
ICU can be a stressful environment for patients and their whānau. We encourage you to take some time to relax in our whānau waiting area. You are welcome to use the coffee and tea facilities. We are here to help – please talk to us about anything that is worrying you. It is normal to have questions, and our nurses and doctors are happy to talk with you.
Our team
Our ICU team is made up of a range of healthcare professionals. Each patient has a dedicated nurse who is supported by the wider nursing team, day and night. Our senior ICU doctors determine medical care and work closely with other specialties across the hospital.
The Allied Health team provide expertise in a variety of areas to support patients during and after their stay in ICU. The team includes physiotherapists, dieticians, pharmacists and more.
Clinical staff are supported by ward clerks and administrators who ensure the smooth running of our ICU.
