Celebrating the outstanding contribution our Allied Professionals make to better health and wellbeing outcomes.

Today is Allied Professions Day, a time to celebrate our highly skilled Allied Professionals who have specialised expertise in preventing, diagnosing and treating a range of conditions.

Allied Professions includes a huge range of specialties such as dietitians, social workers, physiotherapists, occupational and play therapists, pharmacists, anaesthetic technicians, optometrists, psychologists, medical imaging technologists and many other clinical professions. They work with all types of patients in a hospital setting, as well as out in the community such as at schools, community health centres and in private practice.

The theme of the day this year is ‘NZ Allied Professions – we deliver’, focusing on the great work these practitioners do to deliver exceptional treatment and care to their patients.

“The day is an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding work these practitioners do and their contribution to achieving better health and wellbeing outcomes,” says Jennifer de Ridder, Chief Allied Professions Officer for Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley. “It’s also a time to recognise how well they support each other in their work.”

Teams will celebrate the day in their own way, including the presentation of personalised certificates from managers.

As part of recognising these healthcare professionals, the Allied Professions Awards are taking place this Wednesday 16 Oct in a virtual ceremony. Held every two years, eight awards (for teams and individuals) covering a range of categories will be given out.

Allied Professionals are nominated by their peers (100+ nominations this year!) with a panel - including the Directors of Allied Professions - choosing the winners.

Of course, these are just the official awards - all our Allied Professionals deserve an award for the work they do every single day and the difference they make to the lives of so many people. Ka pai!
