Make sure that your child or teenager is enrolled for free dental care with Bee Healthy Regional Dental Service for 18 years and under.

Get babies and young children enrolled as early as possible because baby teeth are important for eating, speaking, smiling, and holding space for adult permanent teeth.

Babies born in the Wellington region are automatically enrolled at birth as looking after baby teeth early helps set up healthy habits for life. Your child’s first visit will usually be after their second birthday but you can make an appointment earlier if you have concerns

If you have recently moved to Hutt Valley, have changed address and need to update your details, or can’t remember if your child is enrolled with Bee Healthy, call 0800 TALK TEETH (825 583).

Older children also need good oral health so that they can learn confidently, speak and eat free of pain. Most school children are seen for annual dental check-ups on Bee Healthy Mobiles that visit primary and intermediate schools. If the
mobile is unable to visit a school they will be called for an appointment at their nearest Bee Healthy Hub clinic.

Once your child starts college, your child’s dental care will be transferred to an approved adolescent dental provider, this may include your current family dentist.

Oral health care from pre-school through to 18 years or age is publically funded, although it may be necessary to check if your child is eligible. Orthodontic treatment is not publically funded.
