We’re delighted to share the news on World Radiology Day, 8 November, that two new x-ray machines – the first of their kind in Asia-Pacific – were recently installed at Wellington and Kenepuru Hospitals.

The state-of-the-art machines are the Philips Radiography 7300C model which has AI-enabled technology, meaning a 3D camera in the machine automatically adjusts detector height for adult x-rays of the chest and other upper body areas. This reduces the time to it takes to perform an x-ray by up to 35 seconds, resulting in a potential time saving of 20 minutes daily.

The 3D camera in the tube head also makes it easier for the radiographer to position the patient and provides more precise results.

These installations are part of a wider programme of work to install eight new x-ray machines and associated room refurbishment in Wellington and Kenepuru Hospitals. Completion of this programme will ensure all x-rays machines in our Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley hospitals are up-to-date and fit for the future.

As part of the refurbishment, radiology rooms have had wall-sized decals of photographs installed.

Installation of the photography – which includes an aerial view of Wellington City, the harbour and a waterfall in Wilton’s Bush, Ngaio kindly donated by Wellington photographer Simon Woolf – was funded by the Wellington Hospitals Foundation.

Radiology is proud to be supported by the Foundation, who were also crucial to securing the mammography equipment replacement in November 2023. We look forward to working with the Foundation on future radiology projects.
